3 1/2 inch gauge “Lion”
A well-made model of “Lion” to LBSC’s “Titfield Thunderbolt” design.
Completed in 1985, the engine has a silver-soldered copper boiler by Alec Farmer. Twin inside cylinders with slide valves actuated by loose eccentric Gab gear, reversed from the footplate.
In 1980 Lion took part in the 150th anniversary celebrations of the Liverpool and Manchester Railway at Rainhill under her own steam. This photo shows ‘LION’ en-route to Bold Colliery where the locos were serviced during the event. She is seen leaving Wigan Wallgate.
